Congratulations on making the choice to create a healthier lifestyle for yourself. Adding more water each day replenishes what the body uses, helps you feel full, hydrated, and also helps with the look and feel of your skin.
Now you are ready for step 2.
Remember, we are talking healthier lifestyle change and in order to do that you must not feel that you are taking away food, or that you can’t eat certain foods. In order to create a sustainable healthy lifestyle, you need to be smart about what you eat. So we are adding this step now.
Change one thing you have been eating. This can be viewed in different ways. Some people find it easier to completely eliminate foods but that doesn’t have to be your only option. I found what worked for me was to switch to a healthier version.
It looks like this: you love your pasta! I’m 1/2 Italian so I totally get it. Instead of eliminating pasta from your diet completely, switch to a whole wheat or whole grain pasta. You are adding nutrients and still getting your pasta fix. Have a glass or 2 or 3 of wine at night? You need to wind down after your day? I get it! I love a good Cabernet. You don’t have to give it up, just lower how many glasses you have. Have one glass a night or maybe every other night.
I have made small changes in my diet. I love tortilla chips but I know that I can’t eat them everyday, so when I do have them I eat the whole grain ones and dip them in salsa or fresh guacamole. (You can find a delicious guacamole recipe under the nutrition tab).
Making small changes to your diet will help you to see how you can eat healthy without feeling like you are giving up everything you love. Do this for a week or 2, it may take longer to create this habit, but once you do, you will find it easy to incorporate into your daily life.
